Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.
"The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver

Dr. Aileen S.P. Baviera and Dr. Eduardo C. Tadem each received the Centennial Professorial Chairs Award from the University of the Philippines; Dr. Reuben Ramas Canete was granted a 2012 UP Arts Productivity Award; and Dr. Carolyn S. Sobritchea received a Distinguished Alumni Award for Gender Equality and Empowerment from the University of the Philippines Alumni Association.

Centennial Professorial Chair Awards are given yearly and are granted based on several minimum criteria:  a PhD/doctoral degree; proof of research or creative outputs; and proof of mentoring, including thesis advising. Recipients are entitled to a cash award of P100,000 each. The Distinguished Alumni award recognizes university alumni who have contributed significantly to their chosen fields of expertise. It was given during the 2013 UP General Alumni-Faculty Homecoming and Reunion last June.

Dr. Cañete was also named UP Artist I and is entitled to an annual monetary award from 2012 to 2014. Given each year, the UP Arts Productivity Award recognizes exemplary artists who “consistently bring honor to the university through their award-winning creative works in the different arts.” Awardees are selected based on a stringent set of standards, including publications record, presentations, and performances, and standing in the professional community of local and international artists. The awarding ceremony took place in early August.
