The UP Asian Center launched a new book, "Philippine-Iran Relations: 50 Years and Beyond", which reflects on the diplomatic history, academic exchanges, and the cultural, political and developmental linkages between Iran and the Philippines.

Based on presentations delivered at the International Conference on Philippine-Iran Relations: 50 Years and Beyond at the UP Asian Center in February 2015, the book features nine articles, including chapters on

  • Comparison on Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution and the 1986 Filipino People Power
  • Perceptions of Irans and Iranians in Philippine media
  • 500 to 1000 years of Philippine-Iran cultural exchanges through language
  • Diplomatic history
  • Iran, Philippines and the United Nations
  • Challenges to and future directions of relations between the two countries

Philippine-Iran Relations: 50 Years and Beyond is edited by Henelito A. Sevilla, Jr., Ph.D., Assistant Professor and Assistant to Dean for Administration and Public Affairs at the UP Asian Center. He obtained his Ph.D. in International Relations at the University of Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran.

The book is published by the UP Asian Center and the Cultural Counsellor, Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Philippine-Iran Cultural and Scientific Society. It was launched on 14 February 2017 during an exhibit: Persian Artistry: Calligraphy and Handicrafts at the UP Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.

The Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
