Encarnacion Tadem, “examine[s] the general nature of Philippine political dynasties, the reasons for their continuing existence and their adverse impact on the country” (328). It is noted that “following independence in 1946, the story of the political family is one of remarkable resilience facilitated by a combination of militarisation and economic diversification” (330).
