UP Asian Center Hosts Roundtable on Philippines-Australia Security Relations

A roundtable, “Philippines-Australia Security Relations: Emerging Challenges and Prospects in the New Terrain” was held on 1 February 2017 at the Seminar Room, Hall of Wisdom, UP Asian Center, Quezon City, Philippines. Scholars and government officials from both the Philippines and Australia gave brief presentations during the roundtable:

During the free discussion, the participants discussed game-changing conditions that have emerged in domestic political affairs, and possible scenarios that can manage these surprises; the Trump administration; leadership in relation to state interests, in particular the Duterte presidency and EDCA; and the role of Track 2 in these recent and future developments.

Specialize in PH Foreign Policy: MA Program in Philippine Studies

In attendance from the UP Asian Center were Professor Aileen Baviera and Dean Joefe B. Santarita. Moderated by Herman Joseph Kraft of the UP Department of Political Science, the roundtable was organized by the UP Asian Center in partnership with the Institute for Maritime Affairs and Law of the Sea, College of Law and and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, both in the University of the Philippines Diliman. 

The Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
