Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.
"The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver

Dr. Marina Durano, Assistant Professor at the UP Asian Center, delivered a presentation at a roundtable, Systemic Issues, including Global Economic Governance and External Debt during UN General Assembly Hearings with Civil Society held on 9 April 2015 in New York City.

In her remarks, “Responding to Systemic Issues to Achieve Industrialization and Development,” Dr. Durano commented on the zero draft of the outcome document for the Third International Conference on Financing for development to be held in Addis Ababa this year.

She argued, among other things, for the financing of a broader array of public goods; for a more nuanced approach to the role of technology in development; and for a need to "take a critical look at investment flows that search for gains from interest rates or currency arbitrage brought on by very loose monetary policies of developed countries.”

Dr. Marina Durano teaches graduate courses on various aspects of development at the UP Asian Center. She is also affiliated with DAWN (Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era) and the Women’s Working Group on Financing and Development.  Visit her faculty profile.
