Professor Bao Maohong has been appointed Visiting Research Fellow at the Asian Center, where he will stay from 28 December 2014 to 28 January 2014. He is Professor of Environmental History and Asia-Pacific Studies at the Department of History in Peking University and Director of Center for Southeast Asian studies in Peking University.

Professor Bao's research in the Philippines tackles the development of modern agriculture in the Philippines from 1780-2010 from the perspective of agro-ecological history. He has published The Origins of Environmental History and Its Development (2012); The Environmental Governance in China and Environmental Cooperation in Northeast Asia (2009) and Forest and Development: Deforestation in the Philippines (1946-1995) (2008), as well as several book chapters and journal articles on the environmental history of the Asia Pacific, and environmental NGOs and movements in China, among others.

Professor Bao is a recipient of the Peking University Distinguished Research Award in 2010 and 2012, and the National Excellence Teaching Award in 2004.
