The UP Asian Center will be holding a public forum, “Indigenous Peoples’ Struggles for Self-determination and the Environment in the Philippines and Myanmar” on 24 April 2019, 1:30 – 4:00 pm, UP Asian Center, Quezon City. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Walk-ins are welcome but interested participants are encouraged to sign up.

ABOUT THE EVENT
The forum discusses the struggle of the Karen people in Myanmar, and the Lumads of Mindanao to defend their territories and natural resources from plunder and destruction. The Salween Peace Park initiative and the Defend Talaingod campaign are some of the experiences that will be shared in the forum. It is organized by the Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment, the UP Asian Center, and the International Indigenous Peoples Movement for Self-Determination.
The Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
