The UP Asian Center held a General Orientation for its students on 12 September 2020 to discuss the academic guidelines, access to library resources, online safety and information dissemination in the remote learning setup. The event supplements the orientation for Asian Center’s new students held on 9 September 2020.
ACADEMIC GUIDELINES
The first part of the orientation reiterated the memoranda released by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs pertaining to suspended academic rules (OVPAA 2020-97), the academic plans (OVPAA 2020-68) for the First Semester of AY 2020-2021.

Learning Management Systems: LMSs will be utilized for the synchronous and asynchronous classes. Several options are UVLe and Google Meets. Students are required to get their UP DILNET and UP mail accounts to access these platforms. Please consult with your professor regarding the platforms which will be used for your respective classes.

Academic Calendar: The First Semester is shortened to 14 weeks. While the schedule after the First Semester has not been approved yet, the second semester is proposed to have 12 weeks and the midyear extended to 7 weeks.

Academic Roadmap: The document details the operational principles and preparations undertaken by the university, such as physical and academic infrastructures, mode of learning delivery and student services availability.

University Liability in Remote Learning Setup: As per the College of Law Opinion, UP and its faculty do not have liability over students who acquire injury or accident when accessing the digital space or learning management systems to participate in remote learning classes.

LIBRARY RESOURCES AND ACCESS

Access to the Asian Center Library and Resources: Physical entry is still not yet allowed in the Asian Center Library. Students, however, may place an online request for e-resources and hard copy of books. The hard copies will then be prepared by the Asian Center Library for pick up. Place your requests using these steps.

Tuklas Database: Tuklas, formerly iLib, integrates the online database of UP Libraries and other online indexes in one platform. It contains new features such as bookmark, citation generation and 'send to email' functions for available resources.

EZProxy: Students may remotely access journal subscriptions of UP by using EZproxy. Certain resources may be available for download as PDF. Please note that a UP DILNET account is required for access.

Local Digital Resources: The following database are also made available for online access to select local resources: UP Diliman Journals Online, UP Open Access Repository (for rare periodicals), Digital Archives (for thesis of students in UP Diliman colleges) and Proquest Database on Filipiniana theses and dissertations.

ONLINE SAFETY
Students are reminded to abide by UP’s IT and data privacy policies to ensure online safety in the remote learning setup. Precautions focused on the use of two-factor authentication in UP-hosted accounts and on acquiring permission prior to sharing of class materials to protect personal information.
ASIAN CENTER STUDENT GUIDE
The Student Guide in the Asian Center website contains a comprehensive compilation of administrative procedures and academic information that aims to answer students’ commonly asked questions during their period of study (i.e. registration, changemat, dropping, LOA, AC academic program information).

The UP Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
