Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.
"The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver

The new batch of books will be added to the Japan collection of the Asian Center Library; the donations includes Birgit Tremml-Werner's publication entitled Spain, China, and Japan in Manila, 1571-1644: Local Comparisons and Global Connections (Emerging Asia). Dr. Werner shared her expertise in the recently concluded “Scripts in Asia,” an online international conference organized by the Asian Center, and gave in effect an overview of her recent book.
The latest acquisitions of the Asian Center also capture the changing demography and social dynamics in Japan, as well as the initiatives of the Japanese government in addressing these pressing challenges.
As a product of cooperation between the Japan Foundation and Asian Center, this library grant has endowed the Asian Center Library for the three years. The latest materials are vital to learning and research on Japanese Studies at the University of the Philippines.
This grant is a collaborative effort of the Asian Center's students taking Japanese Studies, the Asian Center Library, Mr. Alleson II D. Villota (alumnus of the Center), and Prof. Jocelyn O. Celero (Library Grant Project Director).
The library grant scheme extended to the Asian Center is aligned with the Japan Foundation's thrust to cultivate friendship, trust, and mutual understanding globally, and to work closely with institutions offering Japanese Studies.
