Mr. Asnawi Maamor and Mr. George Michael Regino, graduates of the UP Asian Center Philippines Studies Program, were conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu with the rank of Kamagi by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.
Mr. Maamor graduated with a Master of Arts in Philippines Studies in 2015. He is the Team Leader of the PMS-Regional Field Unit IX, Presidential Management Staff - Office for Regional Concerns, Office of the President of the Philippines.
On the other hand, Mr. Regino finished with a Master in Philippine Studies degree in 2013. He is currently the Acting Director of the Presidential Management Staff - Office for Regional Concerns, Office of the President of the Philippines.
The Order of Lapu-Lapu was established in 2017. It is conferred by the President of the Republic of the Philippines in recognition of the invaluable service rendered by officials and personnel of the government, as well as private individuals, in significantly advancing a campaign or advocacy of the President, particularly acts of valor and kindness described as extraordinary acts of service and exceptional contributions to the country. The Order of Lapu-Lapu is comprised of four medals: Magalong, Kalasag, Kampilan, and Kamagi.
The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The UP Asian Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. It also offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
