The Philippine Association for China Studies (PACS), UP Diliman and the UP Asian Center is now offering the “AMBASSADOR CHITO STA. ROMANA THESIS/DISSERTATION GRANT FOR CHINA STUDIES.” The grant is open to all graduate students from the University of the Philippines Asian Center and the Tri-College PhD Philippine Studies Program. Deadline of applications is on 30 November 2022.
ABOUT THE GRANT
In memory of the late Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago “Chito” Sta. Romana, who served as a Professorial Lecturer at the Asian Center, the grant is in support of graduate research related to China/Chinese Studies. The grant shall be offered for the Academic Years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
Each approved application shall receive up to PhP 80,000 per year contingent on the number and merit of the applications.
ELIGIBILITY
1. Must be undertaking a Master of Arts thesis or PhD dissertation related to China/Chinese Studies; 2. Must be on active status (i.e., currently enrolled or in residency status); 3. Must have successfully defended a thesis/dissertation proposal or, are already in the writing stage at the time of application; 4. Must have submitted a progress report certified by the thesis/dissertation adviser.

2. Endorsement from the thesis or dissertation adviser indicating capacity of the student and potential contribution of the study to knowledge and development of China/Chinese Studies. 3. Copy of approved thesis or dissertation proposal. 4. Certification of research proposal approval . 5. Certification of at least GWA of 1.75.

The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia.
