Prof. Eduardo C. Tadem, Ph.D., UP Asian Center Professorial Lecturer, along with 20 others from different units in UP Diliman, has been conferred Professor Emeritus during the 1376th Meeting of the UP Board of Regents.

THE GAWAD TSANSELOR

According to the UP Diliman Faculty Manual (2003), Professor Emeritus is a life-long title given to retired faculty members with the rank of Professor and have renders active and faithful service to the University for at least 20 years. They must have achieved marked distinction as a productive scholar, artist, or scientist, or is widely acknowledged as an effective and dedicated teacher. Once appointed, it need not be renewed (p. 113).
Professor Emeriti may be given a teaching or research assignment by the Dean of the college subject to the approval of the Chancellor or the President (if over 70 years of age).The title is honorific and does not carry monetary remuneration (p. 115).
Dr. Tadem is the third faculty of the UP Asian Center awarded with the title together with former UP Asian Center Dean Dr. Josefa Saniel (conferred 1993) and the country’s foremost anthropologist Dr. F. Landa Jocano (conferred 1995).

DR. EDUARDO C. TADEM

Eduardo C. Tadem, Ph.D., is a Professorial Lecturer at the Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, and Convenor of the Program on Alternative Development of the University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UPCIDS AltDev). He retired as Professor of Asian Studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman in 2015 where he served as Editor-in-Chief of Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspectives on Asia.
He has published in several academic journals, periodicals, and books. He was President of the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) from 2014-2018, co-convenor of the ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN Peoples’ Forum (ACSC/APF) Philippine National Organizing Committee (2017), and a founding Governing Board Member of the Consortium on Southeast Asian Studies in Asia (SEASIA).
He earned his Ph.D. in Southeast Asian Studies from the National University of Singapore, and a Master of Arts in Asian Studies and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Professor Tadem currently teaches courses on Southeast Asian Studies, Agricultural and Rural Development, Economic Policy, and Social Protection. Learn more about the graduate program.

The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The UP Asian Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies.
