The Tri-College Ph.D. Philippines Studies Program, University of the Philippines Diliman will hold the conference and exhibit, PAKARADYAAN: Women Weaving Mëranaw Culture on 28 March to 1 April 2023, at the UP Asian Center and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. The event is on-site, free, and open to the public.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Conference and exhibit on Mëranaw culture from March 28 to April 1, 2023.
Featuring lectures by distinguished Mëranaw and other scholars on March 28 and 29, cultural performances of traditional Mëranaw dances, an exhibit of authentic Mëranaw clothing and other cultural items, and actual weaving demonstrations by the Arkat Lawanen Women Empowerment Producers Cooperative which the Mëranaw women organized to help recover from the 2017 Marawi siege.
Organized by the UP DIliman TriCollege PhD Philippine Studies Program in partnership with the UPD Office for Initiatives for Culture and the Arts (OICA) and the Quezon City local government in celebration of the National Women’s Month.

The UP Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
