Rusell Irene L. Lagunsad, TriCollege Ph.D. Philippine Studies Program student was awarded the 2023 Gawad Tsanselor para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral, one of the most prestigious distinctions awarded to UP Diliman students for their exemplary accomplishments and contributions to their respective fields. The awarding ceremony was held on 23 June 2023, 2:00 pm, PHT, at the University Theatre, UP Diliman.
THE GAWAD TSANSELOR
The Gawad Tsanselor is the most prestigious distinction awarded to the members of the UP Diliman community to recognize their outstanding performance in various fields of university work such as teaching, research and creative work, extension, administration, and student activities. It is given to faculty, students, administrative staff, and research and extension professional staff (REPS) during the week-long celebration, Linggo ng Parangal. The award has six categories: Natatanging Guro, Natatanging Mananaliksik sa Filipino, Natatanging REPS, Natatanging Kawani, Natatanging Mag-aaral, and Natatanging Programang Pang-Ekstensiyon.
For this year, six (6) UP Diliman students were awarded the Gawad Tsanselor para sa Natatanging Mag-aaral. The recording of the event can be streamed online via UP Diliman’s Youtube Channel.
RUSELL IRENE L. LAGUNSAD
Rusell Irene L. Lagunsad is currently writing her Ph.D. dissertation under the TriCollege Ph.D. Philippine Studies Program of University of the Philippines Diliman. In 2018, she obtained her Master of Arts in Filipino degree from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. She gained her Bachelor in Secondary Education Degree from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela and is now the current head of the Filipino Department of Notre Dame of Greater Manila – Junior High School. With a love for teaching and a strong advocacy for literacy, Ms. Lagunsad also volunteers to teach children at a cemetery, and used to teach Filipino to the Lumad.
Ms. Lagunsad have also won various awards in research conferences. She has also garnered recognition locally and internationally. Some of them are Outstanding Educator in Community Engagement, Guro Excellence Award, Outstanding Educator in Filipino, Guro Demofest Champion, and Outstanding Teacher in the International Centre for Excellence in Education in Bangkok, Thailand, among others.
The UP Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
