The UP Asian Center, in partnership with the Center International Studies East and Southeast Asian Studies, will be hosting a lecture, “Cultural Heritage Lecture: Heritage Law Vital Signs and Symbols” on 24 October 2023, 10:00 am to 11:30 am, PST (GMT+8), at the Seminar Room, GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The UP Asian Center, in partnership with the Center for International Studies (CIS) invites the public to Cultural Heritage Lecture: Heritage Law Vital Signs and Symbols. This free lecture will be given as part of the cultural heritage module of the CIS’ SEA 30 class.
The esteemed lecturer is Atty. Nicolas “Nick” B. Pichay, a playwright, lawyer, and the current Director of the Senate Legislative Library Services at the Senate of the Philippines. Atty. Pichay participated in the crafting of R.A. No. 10066 or National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009. In this lecture, he will expound on the importance of the law in the context of increasing threats to historical memory and global homogeneity.
By participating in this lecture, the UP Asian Center reinforces its commitment to promote initiatives to understand the Philippines in its broader Asian context. This event offers an opportunity for scholars, students, and enthusiasts to participate in the dialogue on cultural heritage and the vital role of Philippine laws in its preservation.

Atty. Nick Pichay is an esteemed playwright, lawyer, and the Director of the Legislative Library Services at the Senate of the Philippines, who participated in the crafting of the Omnibus Cultural Heritage Law (Philippine Cultural Heritage Act).
