Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.

The UP Asian Center and the Center for International Studies in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) hosted delegates of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS) Outbound Program to the Philippines, last 29 February 2024, at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium.
Eight (8) undergraduate students and one (1) graduate student from different universities in Japan visited UP Diliman led by Ms. Hibino Nao of the Youth Exchange Division of the International Exchanges Department. As part of the short exchange, students from the SEA 30 class from the UP CIS also participated in the program.
Dr. Henelito A. Sevilla, Jr., Dean of the UP Asian Center, and Dr. Ramon G. Guillermo, Director of the Center for International Studies officially welcomed the students to the UP Asian Center and provided an overview of the programs of both institutions. The delegates were also given a tour of the ongoing exhibits at the Asian Center.
Japanese and Filipino participants engaged in interactive sessions. The program commenced with a self-introduction of the Japanese delegates and Filipino students who shared their academic backgrounds, hobbies, and interests. The students also participated in a short ice breaker led by Danae Pantano, AC University Researcher.
The JENESYS delegates set up booths and activities where Filipino students can learn more about Japanese culture. The booths featured Japanese games, calligraphy, and yukata (Japanese garment) fitting.
As a final activity, participants went on a tour of the UP Diliman campus. Led by AC and CIS students Leo Niel Jasper Sese and Jesse Leigh Morales, the tour provided an overview of UP students’ day-to-day routines and academic experience.
To close the program, Dr. Amparo Adelina Umali III of the UP CIS delivered a short message reiterating the commitment of UP CIS, the UP Asian Center, and the UP Diliman in collaborating with the Embassy of Japan and other Japanese organizations to conduct exchanges for students and to promote Japan and Philippines partnerships.
The JENESYS Programme is one of the regional programs under Japan’s Friendship Ties Programs. It is an exchange project of the Japanese government to strengthen the connections among the youths in Japan and Southeast Asia.
