The UP Asian Center and the Maningning Miclat Art Foundation, Inc. (MMAFI) will host the Onsite Launch of the 15th Anniversary Edition in Coffee Table Book Form of Mario I. Miclat’s Secrets of the Eighteen Mansions and the 2025 Maningning Miclat Poetry Awards, Alaala Alang-alang sa Sining, on 29 September 2025. The event is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to register online.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The UP Asian Center and the Maningning Miclat Art Foundation, Inc. (MMAFI) is organizing a tribute event to honor the legacy of Dr. Mario I. Miclat and his daughter Maningning Miclat. The event features the launch of the coffee table book edition of Dr. Mario I. Miclat’s autobiographical novel, Secrets of the Eighteen Mansions, with an introduction by National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario; the 2025 Maningning Miclat Poetry Awards in English and Filipino, with the grand winners receiving a cash prize of Php 28,000 each, a Julie sculpture trophy, and Miclat books; as well as musical numbers featuring poems of Maningning Miclat set to music by composers like Joey Ayala and Jesse Lucas. This activity aims:

      • To celebrate the contributions of Dr. Mario I. Miclat and Maningning Miclat to art and literature
      • To promote cultural appreciation and education through the arts
      • To provide a platform for emerging artists and writers to showcase their talents

MMAFI is a non-stock, non-profit organization founded in 2001 in honor of Maningning Miclat. The foundation aims to promote art and literature through various activities, including the biennial Maningning Miclat Poetry Awards and Art Awards. The Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The UP Asian Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies.
