The UP Asian Center in partnership with the UP Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, the UP Korea Research Center will be holding the Hybrid Special Lecture, " Science Diplomacy and the Future of Korea-Philippines Partnership," on 28 April 2026, 10:30 to 11:30 AM (GMT+8), at the ASEAN and Japan Halls, Hall of Wisdom, Asian Center, UP Diliman. ABOUT THE LECTURE

The lecture, themed “Science Diplomacy and The Future of Korea-Philippines Partnership”, will highlight the institution's dedication to providing quality education while strengthening the bilateral ties between South Korea and the Philippines. The key objectives of the lecture are as follows: 1) Examine the future landscape of science diplomacy and the Korea-Philippines partnership; 2) To conduct public diplomacy initiatives by Korea; and 3) To foster future partnerships/collaborations between UP and Korean institutions.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER

DR. JIN PARK
Invited Chair Professor, Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy, KAIST 
Former Foreign Minister, Republic of Korea

Dr. Jin Park is a South Korean politician and former career diplomat who served as the 40th Minister of Foreign Affairs from 12 May 2022 to 10 January 2024. A graduate of Seoul National University's Law Department, he earned a master's degree in public administration from Harvard Kennedy School in 1985 and a doctorate in politics from the University of Oxford in 1993. Park began his professional career in 1977 after passing the foreign service examination and later transitioned into politics, serving as press secretary to President Kim Young-sam in 1993 before entering the National Assembly. Elected to four terms in the National Assembly—representing Jongno-gu in the 16th, 17th, and 18th legislatures, and later Gangnam District in the 21st—he chaired the Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee from 2008 to 2010, earning recognition for his expertise in international relations.
