Wherever I am, the world comes after me.
It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it.
Now I understand
why the old poets of China went so far
and high
into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist.
"The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver

The UP Asian Center, in partnership with UP CIFAL Philippines and CIFAL York, is organizing the On-site Project Exhibition, "Co-Creating the Climate-induced Displacement Citizen Science Lab (CCID-CS Lab) in the Philippines," on 12 May 2026, 9 AM to 3:30 PM, PHT at the ASEAN-Japan Hall, UP Asian Center. The event is free and open to the public. Online registration is encouraged due to limited slots.

ABOUT THE LECTURE

The Philippines is uniquely vulnerable to climate-induced displacement due to its geographical position along the Pacific typhoon belt. The CCID-CS Lab in the Philippines project aims to establish a collaborative citizen science framework that empowers local communities, focusing on climate-vulnerable areas like Hagonoy, Bulacan, to become active participants in climate research. By bridging the gap between advanced scientific methods and community-led data collection, this initiative seeks to study displacement trends, analyze socio-economic consequences, and develop both short-term emergency responses and long-term adaptation strategies, especially in relation to the perennial flooding issues of the community.

Specifically, this activity serves as the culmination of a month-long series of workshops conducted in Barangay Sagrada Familia, Hagonoy, Bulacan, which focused on the community’s: (a) resilience and adaptation strategies; (b) livelihood vulnerability and economic triggers of displacement; (c) governance, planning, and managed retreat mechanisms, and; (d) mapping and modeling climate-induced relocation patterns. This event also highlights the community’s co-creation of a serious game, an interactive planning and learning tool derived from the community-generated data gathered throughout the workshop sessions.
