The UP Asian Center, together with its partners, invites the general public to DEATH THROES: An International Academic Conference on the Decline of the US Empire, on 26 October 2026, 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM, PHT (GMT+8), at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, Asian Center, UP Diliman. The event is FREE and open to the public. Registration is encouraged due to limited seating. Certificates and Meals will be provided.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Spearheaded by the Coalition of Academics Against U.S. Aggression (CAUSA) alongside progressive partner organizations (All UP Academic Employees Union, Congress of Teachers/Educators for Nationalism and Democracy, Alliance of Concerned Teachers, and Ugnayan ng mga Makabayang Guro sa Ateneo) and UP Diliman academic units (Office of the Chancellor, Center for International Studies, Office of the Faculty Regent, and Asian Center), this conference aims to examine the historical, political, economic, and cultural dimensions of the contemporary crisis of U.S. global hegemony and to explore the implications of an increasingly multipolar world for education, labor, civil society, and basic sectors.
This gathering serves as a vital anti-imperialist counter-assembly and critical academic response ahead of the 49th ASEAN Summit in Manila this November 16-18, 2026. With the arrival of U.S. President Donald Trump for the signing of the Pax Silica Framework Agreement and the MOU on Critical Minerals in the Philippines that will further facilitate imperialist plunder and aggression in the country, this conference provides an urgent space to analyze the decaying machinery of the U.S. empire and build multi-sectoral resistance against foreign intervention.
