In celebration of its 69th founding anniversary, the UP Asian Center will hold a Flag Raising Ceremony and Keynote Lecture on 18 November 2024, 8:00 AM, PST (GMT+8), at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Lawn and Seminar Room. ABOUT THE KEYNOTE LECTURE
MS. EVELYN O. KATIGBAK goes back to her days as a student at the UP Asian Center and weaves her anecdotes as a schematic narrative to articulate the Theory of Collective Memory. Katigbak argues that the UP Asian Center is a social reference not only for its alumni or the UP community but also for Philippine foreign policy.

ABOUT THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER
EVELYN O. KATIGBAK is the Director of the Carlos P. Romulo School of Diplomacy of the Foreign Service Institute (FSI). FSI is the training and research arm of the Department of Foreign Affairs. As the Director for Training, Ms. Katigbak is tasked to ensure that course designs and modules are all up-to-date so that the training program for the country’s diplomats and foreign service corps remain timely and relevant.
Prior to joining the FSI, Ms. Katigbak was a full time faculty at the Department of Journalism, University of the Philippines Diliman College of Mass Communication. At the UP CMC, she was also appointed to administrative positions where she served as Chair of the Journalism Department from 2015 to 2016 and College Secretary from 2014 to 2015.
Her research interests are press and politics; media, popular culture, and democracy; reporting public policy, and ASEAN. She is author and co-author of various books on Philippine culture and cultural diplomacy and the Philippine media. She was also a contributing writer for the ABS-CBN’s online publication, ANCX, from 2020 to 2021. She is a UP alumna, graduating with a degree in MA Asian Studies (Southeast Asia) in 2005 and BA Journalism in 1998. She is still hoping to complete her dissertation to obtain a PhD Communication, also from UP Diliman.

The UP Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
