The UP Asian Center, together with the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, will be holding a public lecture, Thailand-ASEAN Relations, on 27 September 2017, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Seminar Room, UP Asian Center, QC. The lecture is free and open to the public, but seating is first-come, first-served and participants are encouraged to sign up.

ABOUT THE LECTURE

In this lecture, Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, will reflect on the purposes of ASEAN, its role in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region. She will also highlight key achievements ASEAN has made for the people and the agenda Thailand promotes in ASEAN. 

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya is currently the Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila. She started her diplomatic career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand at the Bureau for Policy and Planning.  She has wide experiences in multilateral diplomacy as she served at the Department of International Organizations and the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York. She has keen interest in sustainable development and was responsible for the preparation of the Rio+20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2012.  Prior to her assignment here in Manila, she served at the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Vehicles entering the UP Asian Center (GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center) grounds can only do so via the gate on Magsaysay Avenue that is near a UP guardhouse, a few meters away from Katipunan Avenue, and across Maynilad. The UP Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D. program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy. Get an overview of these programs. The Asian Center also houses a peer-reviewed, open-access journal, Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspectives on Asia. It has published several books and monographs, and hosts or organizes various lectures and conferences.
