Wherever I am, the world comes after me. It offers me its busyness. It does not believe that I do not want it. Now I understand why the old poets of China went so far and high into the mountains, then crept into the pale mist. "The Old Poets of China" by Mary Oliver
Interrogating Globalization in an Asian Context: A Webinar Series
Interrogating Globalization in an Asian Context: A Webinar Series
The UP Asian Center hosted the first lecture in the webinar series, “Interrogating Globalization in an Asian Context,” on 29 November 2021, 10:30 am, Philippine Standard Time.
Abstract and Concept Note
The webinar series features international and comparative political economy analyses on development issues arising from the existential crises, triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and emerging policies and practices aimed at rebuilding the Philippine and other developing economies and societies on more equitable and sustainable foundations.
The series recognizes that analyses of the crises will greatly determine whether developing countries, like the Philippines, will emerge from the crises better able to withstand future emergencies due to the vagaries of the rapidly globalizing world, whether financial or other economic shocks or cross-border environmental, geopolitical, or health crises. Analyses that downplay strong state capacity to deliver health care, social protection, and economic services that helped tide developed countries over would deprive developing countries the policy space to adopt similar measures to salvage their own economies. The series aims to promote new thinking and policy reforms toward ensuring that the transition from the pandemic will pave the way for a just, free, and green future.
