Eight UP Asian Center faculty members are recipients of the One UP Professorial Chair and Faculty Grant Awards. The One UP Awards recognize the outstanding performance rendered by the faculty from 1 July 2015 to 31 December 2018 in “two out of three work areas: 1) teaching, 2) research or creative work, and 3) public service.”

ABOUT THE ONE UP PROFESSORIAL CHAIR AND FACULTY GRANT

Established during the 1039th UP Board of Regents Meeting on 22 July 2015, the One UP Awards gives incentive to 800 full-time faculty members across the eight “constituent units” of the university. The Professorial Chair is awarded to “highest performing full or associate professors,” while the Faculty Grant “is given to the second tier of performing full, associate and assistant professors.” 

Evaluated through a point system, qualified recipients are awarded based on either of the following categories: 

1) Outstanding Teaching & Research,
2) Outstanding Teaching & Creative Work, 
3) Outstanding Teaching & Public Service, 
4) Outstanding Research & Public Service, or 
5) Outstanding Creative Work & Public Service.


The Asian Center offers M.A. degrees in Asian Studies with four fields of specialization: Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and West Asia. The Center also has an M.A. program in Philippine Studies that allows students to major in Philippine society and culture, Philippine foreign relations, or Philippine development studies. The Center offers a Ph.D.  program in Philippine Studies in conjunction with the College of Arts and Letters and the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.
