  • UP Asian Center Launches Exhibit on Pansak Movement

    The UP Asian Center celebrated Sama Bajau music and dance tradition on 6 June 2024, with "Tampat Pag-addatan Sahaya: Place, Tradition and Light"  a series of lectures and performances that highlights the role of UP Diliman as a space for indigenous and marginalized cultures to be expressed. Held at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City, the event marked an exploration of pansak in the field, the University stage, and other spaces, as well as the kinaesthetics, convention, and improvisation of pansak by the Sama Bangingi.

The UP Asian Center and the Japan Foundation Manila are now accepting submissions for the "4th Japanese Studies in the Philippines Research Competition," which will be held sometime in March 2022.  

The UP Asian Center is holding—via Zoom—an online book launch and art exhibit, “The Battle of Marawi: Special Edition” on October 19, 2021, Tuesday, 3 pm to 5 pm, Philippine Standard Time. The event is free and open to the public, but sign-in to a basic Zoom account is required.

In his book, “Plying the Straits: Batel Mobilities in Central Philippines,” Professor Joefe B. Santarita of the UP Asian Center argues that a ship can become a lens for exploring both the logistics and the dimensions of mobilities.

The UP Asian Center will be holding via Zoom a Special Lecture on Philippines-Japan Relations on 5 October 2021, 1–5 pm, Philippine Standard Time. The event is free and welcome to the public, but signing in to a Zoom account is required.
