    The UP Asian Center together with the University of the Philippines (UP) Office of the President, through the UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs—Office of Student Development Services (OVPAA-OSDS), and UP CIFAL Philippines will host the two-day capacity-building event, "Champions of Change and Innovation: UP Youth Summit on Sustainable Development Goals." The UP Asian Center and the Embassy of Bangladesh, Manila will be holding a hybrid seminar to celebrate the “50 Years of Diplomatic Relations between Bangladesh and the Philippines: Achievements, Challenges and Potentials” on 17 November 2022, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (GMT+8), at the GT-Toyota Auditorium, Asian Center, and via Zoom. The event is free and open to the public. Registration to Zoom is required for online attendees. Online registration is also REQUIRED for on-site attendees. Seating is first-come, first-served.

The Philippine Association for China Studies (PACS), UP Diliman and the UP Asian Center is now offering the “AMBASSADOR CHITO STA. ROMANA THESIS/DISSERTATION GRANT FOR CHINA STUDIES.” The grant is open to all graduate students from the University of the Philippines Asian Center and the Tri-College PhD Philippine Studies Program. Deadline of applications is on 30 November 2022.

In partnership with the Japan Foundation Manila, the UP Asian Center is now accepting submissions for the 5th Japanese Studies in the Philippines Research Competition. Filipino graduate students—MA and PhD—may submit any Japan-related research papers (except topics that focus solely on natural sciences, medical sciences, and engineering); undergraduate students may enter essays addressing the topic, “Learning from each other: Disaster Resilience and Recovery in Japan and the Philippines.”

Six UP Asian Center faculty members received 2022 UP Diliman Centennial Professorial Chairs and Faculty Grants in recognition of their research and mentoring efforts in the previous year. The awards were formally conferred during the University Council meeting on 10 October 2022. Below are the awardees from the UP Asian Center.

The UP Asian Center is looking for one (1) non-UP contractual Junior Museum Specialist who will be tasked to support the Assistant to the Dean for Cultural Affairs in cultural and museum-related activities until April 2023. The contract may be renewed. Deadline of application is 15 October 2022.
