    ABOUT THE ROUNDTABLE

    As part of the 70th anniversary celebration of the UP Asian Center, the roundtable discussion focuses on the history and the pioneers who have shaped the Asian Center over the years. This round table serves as a look back at the center's colorful past, as well as a look ahead to its future direction. The event aims to provide a platform for scholarly exchange and critical discussion. The roundtable discussion also aims to provide the audience with the opportunity to learn more about the center's history and its notable scholars.

The UP Asian Center will organize lectures, conferences, film showings, food festival, roundtable, book launch, and cultural activities to celebrate its 64th anniversary, with the theme, Asia 4.0: Changes and Challenges. 

The UP Asian Center will soon accept applications to its graduate programs on Asian Studies and on Philippine Studies for the second semester, Academic Year 2019–2020, which starts in January 2020.

Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspectives on Asia has published a special issue on the works of Dr. Josefa Saniel, former Dean and now Professor Emeritus of the UP Asian Center. The issue reprints five previously published articles in Asian Studies, and comes with a tribute essay written by Mr. Janus Nolasco and Ms. Danae Pantano.

Asian Studies: Journal of Critical Perspectives welcomes themed issues comprising at least four articles. Apart from the journal’s standard guidelines, the following terms will guide the production of the themed issue.  

The UP Asian Center and the Japan Foundation Manila are calling Japan Majors of the UP Asian Center to take part in “Experience Japan: An Essay Writing Competitionfor Japan Studies Majors” Application period is from 9 September 2019 to 11 October 2019. Deadline of submissions is on 11 October 2019, 5 pm.
