    ABOUT THE ROUNDTABLE

    As part of the 70th anniversary celebration of the UP Asian Center, the roundtable discussion focuses on the history and the pioneers who have shaped the Asian Center over the years. This round table serves as a look back at the center's colorful past, as well as a look ahead to its future direction. The event aims to provide a platform for scholarly exchange and critical discussion. The roundtable discussion also aims to provide the audience with the opportunity to learn more about the center's history and its notable scholars.

  • Pagasa sa Gitna ng Kalayaan | A Traveling Exhibit and Lecture by the NHCP Museo El Deposito

    The UP Asian Center in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines through the NHCP Museo El Deposito is organizing the launch of "Pagasa sa Gitna ng Kalayaan,"  a Traveling Exhibit and Lecture by the NHCP Museo El Deposito on 2 December 2025, 9:30 AM (GMT+8), at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, UP Diliman. The exhibit will run until 15 December 2025 at the ASEAN Hall, UP Asian Center. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to register online.

  • [CALL FOR PAPER SUBMISSIONS] Japanese Studies in the Philippines: The 8th Japanese Studies Research Development Competition

    The UP Asian Center is now accepting paper submissions for Japanese Studies in the Philippines: The 8th Japanese Studies Research Development Competition. Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in Philippine Universities may submit any topic related to Japanese Studies (except topics that focus solely on natural sciences, medical sciences, and engineering). The deadline for submissions is 21 December 2025, 5:00 PM, PHT.

Given as part of the Japan Foundation Library Support Grant for Fiscal Year 2017–2018, the books serve as great additions to the Asian Center's Japan Studies collection, and cover history, economics, international relations, and popular culture.

Eighteen students—eleven from the MA programs of the UP Asian Center and seven from the Tricollege PhD Philippine Studies Program—took part in Recognition and Graduation Day ceremonies held on 24 June 2018 at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium, Asian Center, University of the Philippines Diliman.

The program aims to provide an opportunity to share Korea’s experiences on continuous economic growth as well as efforts on sustainable national development, which can help other countries avoid falling into what is commonly referred to as the middle-income trap.

The title of the presentation was “Somewhere Between Area, Empire, and Transnation: The Transformation of Area Studies in the 21st Century" and given at the 2018 International Conference of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies, held from 11 to 12 May 2018 at the Busan University of Foreign Studies, Busan, Republic of Korea.
