UP Asian Center graduate, Alleson D. Villota II, Ph.D., recently obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Tokyo. He earned his Ph.D. in Information, Technology, and Society from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies on 8 March 2024.

UP Asian Center alumnus Aemir M. Villafania recently received the prestigious Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship Program 2024 from the Japanese government. He will enter Nagoya University in Japan in the spring semester of 2024 under the Linguistics and Cultural Studies Program of the Graduate School of Humanities as a research student.

The UP Asian Center co-hosted the inaugural International Symposium on Cultural Tourism and Heritage Studies (ISCTHS) on March 6-10, 2024, at The Evitel Resort Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. This symposium is in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Manila - Museum of a History of Ideas, Springer, The Faura Project, and the Bunga Artslink Multimedia Production.

The UP Asian Center, sponsored by the Japan Foundation Manila, successfully held the graduate leg of the “Japanese Studies in the Philippines: The 6th Japanese Studies Research Development Competition” on 23 March 2024, 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, at the Seminar Room, GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center.

The UP Asian Center, in partnership with UP CIFAL Philippines, hosted a special public lecture, “Connections and Collaborations: The Case of Japanese, Zainichi Koreans, and Filipinos in Kyoto” last March 2024, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM (GMT+8), at the Seminar Room, GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center, UP Diliman.
