    The UP Asian Center was honored to host a delegation of youth leaders from Timor-Leste last 3 June 2024. Education Attaché Mr. Tomas Mendonça from the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste led the visit which included a series of talks, question-and-answer, and information session.

  • UP Asian Center Launches Exhibit on Pansak Movement

    The UP Asian Center celebrated Sama Bajau music and dance tradition on 6 June 2024, with "Tampat Pag-addatan Sahaya: Place, Tradition and Light"  a series of lectures and performances that highlights the role of UP Diliman as a space for indigenous and marginalized cultures to be expressed. Held at the GT-Toyota Asian Center Auditorium in Diliman, Quezon City, the event marked an exploration of pansak in the field, the University stage, and other spaces, as well as the kinaesthetics, convention, and improvisation of pansak by the Sama Bangingi.

The Consortium of the Southeast Asian Studies in Asia welcomes paper and panels for the biennial Southeast Asian Studies in Asia Conference (SEASIA 2019), with the theme “Change and Resistance: Future Directions of Southeast Asia,” on 5 to 7 December 2019 at the Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan.

The UP Asian Center and the Japan Foundation Manila will be holding a public forum, “Japanese Studies in the Philippines,” on 16 March 2019, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM, at the UP Asian Center, Quezon City. The forum is free and open to the public. Seating is first-come, first-served. Walk-ins are welcome, but interested participants are encouraged to sign up.

The UP Asian Center will be organizing “The Postwar Rise and Decline of the Left in Southeast Asia,” a public lecture by Nathan Gilbert Quimpo on 7 March 2019, 1 pm–3 pm, UP Asian Center, QC.

The Japan Foundation and the UP Asian Center are calling for submissions of Japan-related research for the “Japanese Studies in the Philippines: A Research Competition for Students.” The competition is open to Filipino students in the undergraduate and graduate levels.
