The UP Asian Center successfully held a face-to-face Student Orientation for newly admitted students for the First Semester of Academic Year 2023-2024 on 30 September 2023, at the Seminar Room, GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center. The activity sought to familiarize 33 new graduate students with the Center’s academic programs and policies, resources, and facilities.

The UP Asian Center, in partnership with the Center International Studies East and Southeast Asian Studies, will be hosting a lecture, “Cultural Heritage Lecture: Heritage Law Vital Signs and Symbols” on 24 October 2023, 10:00 am to 11:30 am, PST (GMT+8), at the Seminar Room, GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required.

The UP Asian Center are calling all AC Japan Majors to participate in the “Undertanding Japan:  2023 K. Matsushita Foundation Japan Study Tour.” Deadline of submissions is EXTENDED to 9 October 2023, Monday, 5:00 PM. Selected students will join an all-expense paid study tour in the Kansai area of Japan in December 2023.

The UP Asian Center is now accepting abstract submissions for the “Japanese Studies in the Philippines Research Development Competition: Year 6.” Undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in Philippine Universities may submit any topic related to Japanese Studies can be submitted (except topics that focus solely on natural sciences, medical sciences, and engineering).

UP Asian Center alumnus Abdulwahid Panganting was awarded the 2023 Prize for Global Research by the provincial government of Antwerp, Belgium for his thesis, “A move forward or a step backward? Challenges in implementing the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro.” He was among 10 graduates who received the award as recognition for their “innovative and development-related research on the Global South.”
